AMBER HAYDEY
“I think that inspiration and influence comes from everywhere when you’re an artist,” she explains of her creative process. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to trust myself and stay true to who I am as an artist and person. To make music for myself first. I don’t want to create with the intention of impressing anyone, but rather because the song flows and feels right. And if other people dig it, that’s an awesome bonus.”
My Story
There’s an essence that comes from being sure of yourself as an artist; a confidence earned through trials and time that elevates both the sound and stories they share. Between skillful song writing and sultry vocals, Amber Haydey resonates this sense of knowing, warmly embracing who she is.
Born in Peace River, Alberta and later rooted in Stony Plain, Haydey is a Métis artist, proud of her indigenous roots. Raised in a family with a deep love for music, Haydey was captivated from a young age.
“I have always been drawn to music,” Haydey remembers warmly, “Both sides of my family had a love for music, so it was always playing. I remember kitchen parties with guitars, spoons, you name it. Everyone would be singing along, having the time of their life. They all planted the seed, and it just grew from there.”
Her songs are shaped by life experiences, close relationships and even social media, filled with hints of rock, blues and classic country. Sonically her music is a nod to the 90’s, with lyrical inspiration from introspective storytellers like Jewel. Her deep voice bears glimmers of Wynona Judd and Ashley McBryde while remaining distinctly unique.
Haydey’s debut self-titled album was produced by Stew Kirkwood and released in 2009 when she was just 18. She spent the next five years playing across Western Canada at festivals, bars and rodeos. A Global Country Star Search Finalist, she has opened for chart topping acts like Jess Moskaluke and Emerson Drive, and has had the pleasure of playing large scale stages such as the Darwell Barn Burner, Coors Banquet Stage at Big Valley Jamboree, and the Jubilee auditorium in Edmonton, AB.
In 2016 Haydey released her sophomore EP ‘Holding On To A Memory,’ produced by Juno Award Winner Russell Broom. She wrote every track on the album and released two radio singles, one of which hit the top 100 on the Canadian Country Indie Charts.
Haydey’s new single ‘Sippin’ On Summer,’ is an infectiously laid-back beach banger with a classic country twist. Produced by Travis Switzer, bass extraordinaire and proud member of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Honours. Written with Jonny Quickstad, the song first garnered interest as an entry in CISN’s ‘Summer Song’ Contest where a live video of it quickly racked up more than 40,000 views and prompted Haydey to take it into the studio to record it.
‘Sippin’ On Summer’ is NOW available for purchase anywhere you stream your music.
